ARTIST STATEMENT
During quarantine, I went into septic shock due to unknown causes, creating dramatic changes to my weight and appearance. My skin stretched and formed new cracks and this infection pushed through the pores in my face creating pustules and eventually lasting bumps. I was left with a lot of difficult emotions on how to accept this person that I did not recognize as my physical self. Being alone with a body I no longer recognized left me emotionally distraught and confused, and although these symptoms eventually subsided, I still felt somehow changed.
The human body is powerful, and even under intense stress the body will stretch and change in order to adjust. I became hyper aware of every detail on my body and I began to over analyze myself to re-discover my form. The folds and curves of my body created a new landscape, this was a whole new terrain to explore. My work explores the human body as a landscape and offers a new perspective to appreciate one’s body. By taking the time to travel the surface of the body, there are so many unique curves, dips, hills and textures to discover about oneself. In this exploration of the human body it offers a new perspective with which to view it. By changing how we look at our physicality, we can perhaps regard it with a new appreciation.

2021 UL Lafayette Student Juried Exhibition - THE HUSTLE: Life as a Working Artist
Every year the UL Visual Arts Program reviews student juried artwork and honors those artists whose works stands out from the previous year.
I finished this conceptual short film in May 2020 and submitted it the next year. Out of 200 submissions, they award a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as 3 honorable mentions. I'm very grateful to have been chosen as one of those honorable mentions as well as have my work critiqued by this talented panel of artists.
"I usually shy away from video work... You're forced to be here for an amount of timt, unlike a painting you can decide where to look and for how long you look. When a video has you, you have to watch from beginning to end and this piece absolutely kept me from beginning to end."
"It moved me and I couldn't stop thinking about it and I kept having to go back to watch it again."
